RARE, Per Aquum Desert Palm– Restaurant Review

RARE Restaurant

RARE is a restaurant located in the beautiful hotel, Per Aquum Desert Palm. We were set to go there last week but unfortunately my little Khalifa caught the flu thats going around and we couldn’t make it. Christina, my best friend and trusty helper/eater, and her husband Bassil did the hard job of heading down there and trying it for us. Here is what they had to say:

The setting of the restaurant is edgy, but also intimate. We went on a weeknight so there wasn’t much of a crowd. The wait staff seated us quit quickly. We decided to sit out on the terrace area since the weather is lovely these days. The menu is exceptional, and the staff were so good at helping us decide what to choose.

They first served us warm bread, and while I opted for the tomato bread, Bassil took the basil pesto bread. It was served with butter and an olive paste. They also spoiled us with thinly sliced cured meat.

For our appetizers, we had the Smoked Salmon “Nayeh Style” and the Pan Seared Diver Scallops. The salmon came with baguette chips, black olive and artichoke. The scallops came with a creamy pistachio puree, pickled radish, and a decadent white truffle oil. We really liked both of them but the scallops were cooked to perfection and I preferred that one.

After we finished our starters, they brought out a little palette cleanser, which was made from soda water with a squeeze of orange.

Our mains were really the stars of the night. We ordered the Alberta Rack of Lamb and Duo of Duck. The lamb dish comes with a fennel puree, herb crust and a date jus. It was cooked exactly the way I like it. Really soft and the taste was amazing.

The duck dish was hearty and came with a duck pastilla, butternut squash puree, root vegetables and a lentil jus. You can really tell that they put passion into both of these dishes, and we really enjoyed eating them!

Dessert was also delicious. We both ordered very decadent desserts– I got the Peanut Butter, Chocolate and Banana, while Bassil had the Philadelphia Cheesecake. Both were quite heavy desserts, but so worth it! And hey, banana chocolate and peanut butter sounds pretty healthy, doesn’t it?! The creamy cheesecake came with a fruity berry drizzle and some whipped cream.

After our lovely dinner, we stayed out and smoked some shisha; what a great way to end the night!
