There’s a wave of gourmet burger joints coming into the UAE and Big Smoke Burger is definitely one of the good ones. It’s located in Boxpark, along with all the other cool new kids on the block. It’s got a great ambiance and a very New York-y (or *insert your favorite big city*) feel to it. We went there on a weeknight and there was still quit a crowd. Now, theres a few good burger places in the UAE, but most of their menus are very limited and simple. Big Smoke Burger sets itself a notch up from that — as we looked through their menu, we could really see how creative they are with their dishes.
Along with the basic classics of chicken and beef burgers, they’ve also got veggie and lamb burgers, a couple of spicy options and several different kinds of specialty cheeses to choose from. In addition to just burgers, they’ve got some awesome drinks, sides, salads and even a kids menu!
We chose our drinks first– a Boylan’s Black Cherry cola and an Old Fashioned Strawberry Milkshake. We got onion rings to share, as well as all of the different dipping sauces. What really impressed me was that all of these sauces are made in-house! The different sauces that they have are: horseradish mayo, rosemary mayo, spicy chipotle, cilantro-feta mayo, ranch and bbq. None of these come from pre-made bottled sauces. You can really taste that homemade touch to it, and I think they should bottle it up and sell them, they’re that good! Also, their staff really know the products well. They can tell you easily what the different ingredients are, without a flinch.
For our burgers, we chose the Crazy Burger and the Big Smoke Burger. The Crazy Burger comes with jalapeño havarti, spicy chipotle sauce, coleslaw, bbq sauce, hot peppers and lettuce. We added avocado to that. We also ordered their signature Big Smoke Burger, which has a zingy horseradish mayo, caramelized onions, smoked cheddar, lettuce and tomato. Both of the burgers were absolutely delicious. The meat was so Grade A, I really can’t find any fault to it. The size of the portions are also very good– not tiny sliders, but also not ridiculously huge, gut-busting burgers.
Along with the burgers, we ordered a couple of sides. We got Fries with Bacon and Ranch, as well as the Poutine. The Fries with Bacon and Ranch is exactly what it reads, and seriously, how could you go wrong with fries in ranch dressing topped with bacon bits?! Yum! My favorite, though, was that Poutine. It was made so perfectly– so cheesy and delicious. It’s a good thing the burger was the right size, so I had room to tuck into the Poutine, because I really enjoyed that the most.
