Slider Station — Restaurant Review

Slider Station is definitely the ‘it’ spot right now. It’s all over Instagram and everybody is talking about it. I had to go and see what all the fuss was about. I tried to make a reservation over the phone because I heard it gets packed, but they told me that its not possible to reserve. We were going there in a group, so my friend got to the restaurant first (half an hour after it opened) and it was already full! She tried to book for another time later on in the day and they said that it was impossible because they were already booked for the rest of the day. Uhm what?! If it gets that packed so quick and they don’t take phone reservations, its got to be good!

So we went the next day, literally a few minutes before it even opens (at 1pm) and there was already a line! Thank God it wasn’t a long line though. My friend and I waited in line with baby Khalifa for about 5 minutes before we went in and were seated. We were waiting on our other friend, Safiya, who was coming with her 3 kids. I know it sounds like a daycare with all of these kids in tow, but Alhamdullilah, we really do have well-behaved children, so it’s not like it was a disturbance to other people. We asked them for a couple of high chairs and possibly kids menus. They didn’t have either, so I wouldn’t say that they’re the most family-friendly restaurant. However, the vibe isn’t “lovey dovey couples” either. It’s definitely loud and fun. Just make sure you have your kid’s stroller so they can sit in it.

Before our other friend Safiya got there, we ordered a couple of drinks– the Lemon and Mint as well as the Pistachio White Chocolate. Both were good but the Pistachio is uh-ma-zinggg! Safiya got there, we figured out what we wanted quickly, but the waiters just seemed too preoccupied to look over to our table. I know its busy, but the service could definitely improve in terms of friendliness and promptness.

For starters, we ordered a Kale and Butternut Squash Salad, as well as the Commando Fries. Both we incredible, but I have to say that the Commando Fries is probably the best darn fries I have ever had! Their sauce is so good– I would go back just for that!

Then came the Lobster Roll. By the way, the restaurant isn’t really organized with the timeliness of the way they serve their dishes. A lot of stuff came at totally different times, one slider here, one 15 minutes later, etc. Also another area they could use some improvement on.

Now the Sriracha Lobster Roll was a huge disappointment. It was a tiny spec of a “roll”, there was barely any filling (where was that Sriracha– or lobster?!) and could literally be eaten in 2 small bites. Or 1 big bite. We even told management about how bad it was and they ended up taking it off of our bill at the end. That was definitely nice of them to take care of it.

For our actual sliders, we shared a bunch of different ones, and they were all very good– but the best ones are definitely the Dangerous and the Tiger Shrimp Handgun. This place does a great job with presentation– all of the dishes look so appetizing. The red buns also give it quite an interesting look, but the taste isn’t different from a regular bun. The black bread on the Tiger Shrimp Handgun is different from anything I’ve ever had. Its a very weird spongy texture, and so intriguing.

Again we had to wait another 10 minutes or so before a waiter would catch our eye so we could request a dessert menu. We ordered a delicious bread pudding that comes with a scoop of ice cream and caramel on top. Its super decadent and filling, so you really have to share this dessert or save a lot of room for it!

I really liked the food here, and when we did finally address the manager about an issue we had (the lobster roll), he swiftly took care of it, but I think that the restaurant can do with a bit more improvement on service, timing and organizing. A booking system would be amazing so we don’t have to wait. By the time we got out of the restaurant, we saw a ridiculously long line that literally spiraled across the hall!

Ratings (0-5):

  • Staff/Service: 2.5
  • Cleanliness: 5
  • Food: 5
  • Value for money: 4.5

Overall Rating: 4.25

Worth Trying?: Yes, but make sure to get there early! Their food is great but nothing is worth waiting in a looong line for, so go there right when it opens.
