Horizon, Khalidiya Palace [Restaurant Review]

During our stay at Khalidiya Palace, we were set to try out the Friday Brunch offered at their all-day dining restaurant, Horizon. We went there that same morning for breakfast, but the restaurant spread was completely transformed for the Friday Brunch.

We were promptly seated and near the window where we had a beautiful view of the pool and outdoor area. They also brought out a baby highchair for our Khalifa, and then asked us what we would like to drink. We went for fresh carrot and orange juice.

We then headed to see what goodies the buffet had. Most of the food was laid out in the center of the dining area, and there were many options available. The staters ranged from cold appetizers like cheese, salads, smoked salmon to warm mezze including kibbeh, hummus with lamb, stuffed vine leaves and so many more. There’s also a table of different kinds of soups that you can choose from.

Now, the mains that were offered were definitely the star of this brunch. The dishes are all very tasty! They were mainly Arabic-style, with amazing kababs, biryani rice and steaks, a turkey carving station, as well as a live cooking station for pastas and shish tawook.

There was a really good selection at the dessert tables, filled with all types of cakes, mousses, tarts, creme brûlée, warm berry crumble, ice cream and there was a separate table for traditional Arabic desserts including Umm Ali and different types of baklava. This brunch will easily satisfy your sweet tooth, so save plenty of room for dessert! There are also some fresh fruits if your feeling like being healthy– but really, brunches are not meant for that, so get your cake on!

What I really loved about this brunch is that there is a toddler play area and a separated seating area across the hall, where all of the kids activities and food are placed. Kids have their own buffet here, and all types of childhood favorites are spread out. There’s even a separate kids dessert table with cupcakes, candy and even a large popcorn machine.

Our little Khalifa loved playing in the playhouse that was set up, and he also enjoyed some of the food at the kiddie buffet.

What’s also really good about this kids area is that there is adult seating as well as kids seating, so its a great place to sit if you want to personally keep an eye on your little ones.

The cost of the Friday Brunch at Horizon is 175 Dhs per person. As this is a dry hotel, there aren’t any alcoholic beverages served at the brunch, which makes it great for families.

Worth Trying?:  This brunch is especially great for families, especially for ones with little kids. The food was good, but the selection of desserts was spectacular!
