If you don’t work or live in DIFC chances are you haven’t seen Original Wings and Rings “OW&R” (formerly Buffalo Wings and Rings), which is located inside the Liberty House building, near the DIFC Ritz Carlton. Besides the fact that there are almost no signs or indications from the building exterior that there is even a restaurant inside, this originally American restaurant really comes alive during the evenings or when there is a televised sports event.
There wasn’t a big game on when we visited OW&R for lunch but the atmosphere is still so fun and social! They have flat screens TV’s all over the place all playing different sporting events simultaneously and there is even a stage in the back that hosts live music and open mic performers on weekends and evenings. There is even a balcony outside and table top games free for everyone, like foosball, which I challenged my husband to a few games of after we ordered our food…and sorely lost.
The menu is really fun with lots of choices to share and cater to large groups of friends and family. We started off with fresh Lemon Mint Juice for me and a Mango Fruit Freeze for my husband. I was really surprised that a sports pub type of place had fresh juices on the menu, but they were delicious and definitely tasted fresh squeezed.
I had already heard that OW&R was THE place for chicken so we knew that’s what we both wanted and asked the waitress for recommendations. She suggested the boneless wings to share so we could sample a variety of flavors from their selection of 10. I’m way to indecisive to commit to just one sauce flavor so we took her suggestion and ordered the Boneless Wings as an appetizer to share with three sauces; Original Buffalo, Lemon Pepper and Roasted Garlic.
Here’s what we had:
Drinks: Fresh Lemon with Mint Juice and Fresh Mango Fruit Freeze
Appetizers:
- Buffalo Chicken Nachos (Buffalo chicken, tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, black olives, and melted cheddar cheese all piled high on Tortilla chips) with ranch dressing and salsa for dipping.
- Boneless Wings and three different sauces for dipping (Lemon Pepper, Roasted Garlic and Buffalo).
Main Courses:
- Crispy Chicken Salad (lettuce, tomato, carrots, olives, cucumbers and croutons topped with crispy chicken breast and bleu cheese dressing).
- Buffalo Chicken Wrap (flour tortilla stuffed with BBQ sauce smothered grilled chicken, onions and three types of cheese) served with potato wedges and coleslaw.
Basically, we went chicken crazzzy and were NOT disappointed! The boneless wings are seriously mouthwatering and really big in size. My favorite was the Lemon Pepper flavor sauce and I wasn’t expecting the portions to be SO generous, so we ended up taking some of it home with us too. I ordered the Crispy Chicken Salad and my husband tried the Buffalo Chicken Wrap with potato wedges.
We shared everything of course and both really enjoyed the meal overall.
The next time (soon) we visit OW&R I’ll make sure we come with a crowd so we can really take full advantage of the ambience and party platter options they have. You can even take a load off and have a drink there as the restaurant has an alcohol license and lots of drink options.
