Like many people around the world, we haven’t travelled outside of the country since COVID-19 hit. Instead, we’ve been exploring what’s around us here in the UAE. Usually we go to Emirates like Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah, but this time we did something a bit different and a lot closer to home. We decided to explore Deira!
First impressions:
Our weekend in Deira started off with a check-in at ApartHotel Adagio Dubai Deira, which is a newly-built, modern hotel apartment conveniently located next to so many attractions. Checking in was a breeze and we were taken to our two bedroom hotel apartment. They really pulled all the stops and made sure we felt welcome by laying out so many treats on the dining table for us. They even put balloons in the kids bedroom since my son Khalifa was turning 7 that weekend!

After checking in and getting settled in our room, we went down to dinner at their in-house restaurant, World of Curries. This is where we ended up having breakfast lunch and dinner throughout the weekend and usually I get bored of the same restaurant day after day, but we were so impressed with the variety of cuisines and dishes that we really looked forward to each meal. Its so diverse… from Western dishes to Thai, Sri Lankan, Indian, South African and so much more. The quality of food was also very up to par – its hard to find a restaurant that does different cuisines perfectly well but they definitely do it right. I’m craving their Tom Yum soup now as I type! Oh and the prices were incredible – what’s usually AED 80+ at other restaurants is around AED 35 at World of Curries.

The hotel and service:
What truly made the restaurant special though is the staff. They were so attentive, kind and all around just great at what they do. I think this can be said for the hotel as a whole because they really went out of the way to make sure that we, and especially the kids, felt welcomed and special. They even brought out a birthday cake for Khalifa and sang to him – which was a surprise to all of us!
Wherever we went in the hotel, whether its the restaurant or the rooftop pool, we always felt that the staff were so kind and ensured we had everything we wanted.

What to explore around the hotel:
Throughout our stay, we explored different parts of Deira. My favorite has to be the Gold Souk – which we went to twice! I love me a good bargain and it was only about a 15-20 minute walk from ApartHotel Adagio, so I couldn’t resist. Other souks nearby are the perfume souk, where you can find traditional Arabic scents for a fraction of mall prices, and the spice souk where plenty of aromatic spices and even special sweets are sold. The abra rides – which are local ferry rides – are also located very close by.

In Conclusion:
There are so many hidden gems in Deira and whether you live in the UAE or are a tourist, its a must explore area! Dubai is very welcoming to tourists currently during COVID-19, and this might just be the perfect time to explore the city before the crowds start pouring in. There is so much culture and a feeling of historical Dubai in Deira. I highly recommend a visit to Deira and to truly explore the area, you must stay there for a couple of days – and Aparthotel Adagio is perfect for just that.
Price:
ApartHotel Adagio Dubai Deira, though newly built and modern, is very affordable.
