Thiptara [ Restaurant Review ]

Thai food is one of my most favorite cuisines, so of course I have to tell you guys all about Thiptara. Its known as one of the best Thai places in Dubai and rightly so. They have delicious food, knowledgable waiters and a view like no other! Its located in the Palace Downtown, right across from Dubai Mall and near the fountain.

We went there last week, were warmly greeted by the staff and then were seated next to the window. I highly suggest you book a table in advance. It gets very busy at night, and trust me– you want to be seated near the window! Here’s a little hint as to why:

Our waiter suggested we go for the set menu, but I’m a bit of a picky eater (veggie-pescetarian) and my husband doesn’t eat veggies at all. We thought it would be better to order al a carte, which is exactly what we ended up doing. One of my most favorite starters is fried calamari, and I absolutely love the way its done at Thiptara– not a touch over done and they have the perfect sweet and spicy sauce to go with it.

We also ordered a couple of mocktails for drinks. Their mocktail selection is really good– very fruity and creative!

For mains, we got the scallops (which is actually an appetizer on the menu), wagyu beef, prawns with peppers and a side of egg-fried rice.

The sauce in the scallops are absolutely on point– you MUST order this dish. It was my absolute favorite of the night. It has a creamy coconut sauce and can be made spicy if you’re keen on it.

I also really liked the prawns with pepper dish– its a classic stir-fry with all the right ingredients.

My husband devoured his wagyu beef. It was also a stir-fry; thinly sliced beef cooked in a delicious sauce.

For dessert, he had his favorite Asian dessert, sticky rice with mango. To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of Thai desserts so I just opted for some ice cream. They have delicious coconut ice cream, which is a great light way to end a deliciously spicy meal!

Overall Thoughts: Its an amazing spot for a date night. The views are unmatched– watching the Dubai fountains from this angle is completely different from watching it from the Dubai Mall. Its a lot more exclusive and not crowded. The prices are a bit higher than your usual Thai place, but the food, service and location make it all worth it!
